Hunter Paul Rotan was born on April 4, 1997 in Sweetwater, Texas at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. He remained a life long resident and was employed by Southeast Elementary as part of the custodial team. He may not have been the fastest moving employee but he loved his coworkers, Rose Gonzales, San Juana Nunez, Michelle Adams, and Gilbert Flores. They had many bloopers and laughs. The student's brought him joy and purpose and all of the Southeast Elementary staff were an amazing family to him.
Hunter enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the ever entertaining, " back yard boxing", with his lifelong best friends, Mark Ruiz, Shelton Horsley, Asa Reeves and Marshal Carter. He was a pro-gamer along side his brother, Landyn Rotan.
His favorite holiday was July 4th. He looked forward to hosting and watching firework shows, out door cooking, family vacations with his grandmother Ann and aunt Kristy.
He was proud of everything he had and loved deeply. The love of his life was Sierra Lopez and her children, Kaiser and Gianna Cruz.
Hunter was a care taker to the most important person in his life, his grandfather, Bakin, and his special needs home health client, MaKee McCollom.
All in all, Hunter lived a Gucci life on a boxed wine budget and we will always remember his smile, his soft and kind ways, and the times he made us laugh. Forever 28.
Hunter is survived by his mother, Tiffany Shirley Cherry; brother, Landyn Rotan; stepsister, Kambri Cherry; grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Shirley, aunt, Kristen Shirley Peters and husband Paul Peters; aunt, Ann Marie Rotan; uncle, Harry Don Rotan and wife Lisa Rotan, Cousins, Madyson and Makayla Gilmore, Daiman Atkins, Hadyn and Haylee Rotan.
Honorary family members, Cynthia and Kiley Tanner and Benita Crain.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Billy Joe Shirley (Bakin), his beloved dog, Tequila, and his father in all ways, Gabriel Mac Cherry
Hunter passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date in the summer of 2026.
