James Ross Hilliard

James Ross Hilliard, age 80, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Cory Stroman officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

James was born on June 7, 1946 in Desdemona, Texas to James Henry and Mamie (Seale) Hilliard. He married Beverly Ann Hobson on December 19, 1970 in Sweetwater, Texas. He worked as a lab supervisor for USG for many years before retiring. He was a U.S. Vietnam Army Veteran. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Hilliard of Sweetwater, Texas; daughter, Kelly Sheridan and husband Bryan of Sweetwater, Texas; son, James Cody Hilliard and wife Lauren of Hodges, Texas; granddaughter, Riley Sheridan, grandsons, Jathan and Bryson Sheridan and Connor Hilliard; brother, Roy Hilliard of Stephenville, Texas; brother-in-law, Gary Hobson of Lake Sweetwater, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Gary Hobson, Jeffrey McElyea, R.J. Lewis, Clyde Wagner, B.D. Rainey, and Randall Smith.
