Kenneth Wesley “Coot” Powell, age 85, of Sweetwater , Texas passed away

on Monday, September 13, 2010 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 15, 2010 ,

at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow

with the Fort Hood Army Honor Guard

He was born on July 31, 1925 in Sweetwater , Texas . He was a World War II

U.S. Army veteran. He entered the Army in 1943 and trained in Texas , Kentucky ,

North Carolina and Maryland . He served in Europe and was awarded Et, Victory

Ribbons, GCM, 4 Overseas Bars, Belgian Fourragere, Com. Inf. Badge and the Purple

Heart. He was wounded on the Rhine River in 1945. He was discharged in 1946.

He worked for Flintkote for many years before retiring.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law – Sherry Powell Hatley of Rochester , TX ; Grandson –

Wesley Lin Powell of San Angelo, Texas, and granddaughter – Sabrina McFaul of

Corinth, Texas and one sister-in-law – Nancy Powell of Spring, Texas, several nieces,

nephews and cousins, including Frances Davis of Sweetwater , Texas .

He was preceded in death by his son – Mark Tracy Powell; his parents – James Theo

and Nancy Powell; five brothers – Charles (Sonny) Powell, Lonnie Jim Powell, James

Hollis Powell, Auther Don Powell and Roland Powell and one sister – Opal Inez

Cadenhead.
