Mary Ann Smith

Mary Ann Smith, age 96, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jim Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Wolf Cemetery in Scurry County, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Mary Ann was born on April 4, 1929 in Roscoe, Texas to Arnold Guy and Lorene (Rankin) Haygood. She married L.D. "Shorty" Smith on March 10, 1950 in Inadale, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Avondale Baptist Church. Mary Ann studied genealogy for over 50 years and wrote many books. She was a member of the Hector Family Cemetery Association in San Marcos, Texas serving as an officer. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Vanda Smith of Sweetwater, Texas; granddaughters, Shannon Smith and husband John Lamb of Sweetwater, Texas, and Rachel Smith of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Guy and Lorene Haygood, husband, L.D. "Shorty" Smith, son,Radnal Smith and brother and sister-in-law, Garland Haygood and Maxine Haygood.

Pallbearers will be Joe Don Smith, James Smith, John Lamb, Scott Whittle, Jackie Trent and Dusty Lovell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Les Soles, and Richard Porter.
