Arlene was born on June 15, 1941, in Loraine, Texas. Throughout her life, she faithfully served both God and her community. She worked in the cafeteria at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, Sweetwater Independent School District, and Brookshire’s before later becoming a full time grandma and Guadalupana.
A devoted Catholic, Arlene was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a dedicated Guadalupana. For more than a decade, she volunteered faithfully at her church nearly every day, serving wherever she was needed. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She spent hours each day reading Scripture
and praying for others, and her faith guided every decision she made. If you asked her where she was going, her answer never changed: “To Heaven.”
Family was Arlene’s greatest earthly blessing. She loved her husband and children with unwavering devotion, but her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Her home was always open, and no one ever left hungry. Whether it was lunchtime or three o’clock in the morning, there were always fresh beans and warm tortillas waiting for anyone who walked through her door.
Arlene will be remembered for her remarkable strength, steadfast faith, and unforgettable spirit. She loved tending her garden, sewing for those she loved, and ending the day with one of her favorite novelas. She could grow almost anything, mend almost anything, and pray through everything. She was strong-willed, resilient, fiercely devoted to those she loved, and never afraid to speak her mind. Those closest to her will always smile when they remember her humor and laughter.
More than anything, Arlene wanted her family to know Jesus and to love one another well. Her greatest legacy is not only the generations she leaves behind, but the faith she modeled, the countless prayers she faithfully prayed, the traditions she created, and the unconditional love she poured into every life she touched.
She is lovingly survived by her children; AB Alvarado and wife Elena, and Mikki Carey, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, her siblings; Mary Velasquez, Manuel Moreno and wife Sylvia, Tanis Moreno, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by her love, generosity, and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, AB Alvarado Sr., her parents, her brothers; Larry, Abraham, Luis, Tony, and Raymond Moreno, her sister; Christina, her daughter; Vickie Lee, her son; Mike Alvarado, and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal life.
Pallbearers will be; Kenneth “Bowie” Lee, Braxton Flores, Dre Houston, Jarius Alvarado, Cain Alvarado,Adrian Medina, and Joe Velasquez.
Arlene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her family finds peace in knowing she is finally Home with the Savior she loved so faithfully throughout her life.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
