Rosie Lee Sells Brannan
May 12, 1940 – June 15, 2026
Rosie Lee Sells was born on May 12, 1940 — Mother's Day — in Benjamin, Texas, to Roy and Cleo Sells. She married the love of her life, Floyd Brannan, on June 1, 1956, and together they shared 62 beautiful years. She passed from this life on June 15, 2026, at 86 years old.
Rosie lived out her faith in both words and deeds, in the quiet hours she spent in her Bible, in the praise and worship she loved, and in the prayers she lifted up daily for a long list of people she carried on her heart. Friends and family knew they could always call on her to pray. Her commitment to honesty was legendary. She would do absolutely anything for the people she loved, except lie. Once, when a young man called for her daughter, Rosie made her daughter stand in the bathtub first, so she could truthfully report she was, in fact, taking a bath, just as her daughter had requested.
She had a gift for making people feel loved, and nowhere was that more evident than in her kitchen. Rosie was famous for her coconut pies, which she made with or without meringue, depending entirely on which grandchildren were coming and exactly how they liked it best.
Rosie loved her family with a depth that was second only to her love for God. She had a remarkable way of making each person feel like they were her favorite — because in her heart, they all were.
When she wasn't cooking, you might find her lost in a good book, cheering on the Texas Rangers, or at the card table, where she was known to beat her husband at cards and hold her own at 42. Rosie never cared much about winning at cards. She was often spotted noticing just the right card her grandchild needed and quietly discarding it their way, even if it cost her her own hand. She had her eyes on a far greater prize, and on June 15, 2026, she went home to it.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Brannan; her parents, Roy and Cleo Sells; her sisters, Polly Walton, Corine Faught, Billie Burrow, and Juanita French; and her brothers, Lee Roy Sells and Pug Sells.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Shannon) McClain of Hobbs and Janet (Randy) Fisher of Lovington; her son-in-law, Steve Smith of Lovington; her grandchildren, Scott (Carey) Fisher of Aubrey, Texas, Shanessa (Josh) Gluhm of Hobbs, Brandon (Stephanie) Lemons-Smith of
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jennifer (Erik) Hernandez of Lovington, Whitney (Travis) Hernandez of Lubbock, Texas, Karyle Smith of Lovington, and Bre Anna (Kyler) Tarr of Copperas Cove, Texas; 15 cherished great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her love, her laughter, and her faith will echo in this family for generations to come.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwater Cemetery. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Chad Baxter, Shane Baxter, Shannon McClain, Randy
Fisher, and Steve Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Fisher, Brandon Smith, Josh Gluhm,
Erik Hernandez, Travis Hernandez, and Kyler Tarr.
