Carmen Martinez Obituary


Carmen P. Martinez, age 83, of Abilene, Texas (Former resident of Sweetwater, Texas), passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Hendrick Hospice Care. 

 
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating.  Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. 

 
A prayer service will be held 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Mendez officiating, followed by a rosary at 7:00 P.M., recited by Deacon David Mendez.   

 
She was born on March 19, 1938 in Alice, Texas to Pedro and Maria Pena. She married Jose D. Martinez on August 18, 1955 in Colorado City, Texas.   She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish.  She worked in the cafeteria for SHS for many years before retiring.  She also worked in the laundry department at Sweetwater Healthcare.  


She is survived by daughters, Sylvia Martinez of Sweetwater, Texas,  Esther Tilley of Abilene, Texas,  and Carmen Martinez Lewis and husband Robert of Sterling Virginia, sons,  David Martinez and wife Lucy of Amarillo, Texas, and Louis Martinez of Sweetwater, Texas grandchildren, Lee, David, Katherine, Joseph, Joe, Jacqueline, Madeline, Isabella and Kate, great grandchildren, Krslyn, Gaven, David, III, Kaleb, Maya, Tyler, Sean Anthony, Andrea, Audrey, and Xavier, and numerous great great grandchildren. 

 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro & Maria Pena, husband, Jose Diaz Martinez, daughter, Virginia Martinez, son, Jesse Martinez, son-in-law, James Tilley, and brothers, John Pena, Joe Pena, Jesse Pena, Simon Rodriguez, and Paul Pena, and sisters, Maria Martinez and Sandy Cisneros.  


Pallbearers will be David Martinez, Jr., Joe Martinez, Ella Lewis, Alex Jackson, Gaven Martinez, Kaleb Martinez, David Martinez, III, Johnny Pena, and Danny Pena.
