Cruz Montemayor

Cruz Montemayor, age 75, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.  

A Prayer Vigil will be held 6:30 P.M., Friday, February 12, 2021 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Mendez officiating, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 P.M.,  recited by Emilia Acevedo.   

A Memorial  Mass will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 13, 2021 at  Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating.    Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Cruz was born on May 3, 1945 in Georgetown, Texas to Angelo, Sr., and Catalina (Zuniga) Montemayor.  He married Irene Gutierrez on July 28, 1972 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Sweetwater, Texas.  He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish and the Guadalupano Society.  He worked for Dr  Pepper as a technician before retiring in 2006.  He then worked part-time at Yes Way.  Cruz was a wonderful husband, father,  grandfather, brother and uncle.  His family was the joy of his life.  He loved to scratch off tickets.  Cruz never met a stranger and was liked by everyone he met.  He will truly be missed.  

He is survived by his wife Irene Montemayor of Sweetwater, Texas, son, Cliff E. Montemayor and wife Ciji of Tolar, Texas, daughter, Erica Montemayor of Gardendale, Texas and daughter, Patricia  Gomez and husband Michael of Converse, Texas, four grandchildren, Mark Valdez, Madison Montemayor, Macyn Montemayor and Michael Gomez, brothers and sisters, Tovida Valdez, Angelo Montemayor, Jr. and wife Mary,  Lupe Montemayor and wife Linda, Alex Montemayor and wife Marsha, and Susie Grajales and Thomas,  numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo & Catalina Montemayor, brother, Andrew Montemayor, sisters, Minnie Lopez, Emma Montemayor and Janie Montemayor.
