Dorothy Jane (Sneed) Edwards, age 87, of Blackwell, Texas, passed away on February 18, 2020 at Bronte Health & Rehab Center.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Blackwell Cemetery with Barry Meffert officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on April 27, 1932 in Roscoe, Texas to A.V. and Edna (McDonald) Sneed. She married Alvin H. Edwards on August 16, 1955 in San Angelo, Texas.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Blackwell, leaving only to follow Alvin to various places as he worked on oil rigs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She worked as a telephone operator and at Ethicon in San Angelo before opening the City Cafe in Blackwell. She ran the cafe for 42 years. Everyone in the family spent time working there through the years. People would come for miles around to eat her hamburgers and especially her onion rings. She was a proud Democrat and would not hesitate to tell anyone who asked, even some who didn't.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Meffert and husband Barry, her son, Al Edwards, grandchildren, Christina Meffert, Shane Meffert, and Kaleb Edwards and wife Hannah, and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.V. and Edna Sneed, her brother, Albert, and her husband, Alvin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cancer Services Network in Abilene.
