Jean Anne (Sorrels) Helgeson

Jean Anne Helgeson, age 72, of Garland, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at her residence.

A private graveside will be held at Sweetwater Cemetery. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Jean was born on July 1, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Floyd and Loyce Jean (Davis) Sorrels. She married the love of her life, Richard Helgeson on May 29, 1971 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jean was a professor at Collin College in Plano, Texas for many years before retiring. She loved teaching. Before her teaching career, she was a geneticist which she enjoyed very much. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Helgeson of Garland, Texas, three sons, Benjamin Helgeson, Andrew Helgeson and wife Angie and Eric Helgeson, granddaughter, Daphnie Helgeson, sister, Kathryn Nash of Combine, Texas, and brother, Robert Sorrels of Drumright, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd & Loyce Jean Sorrels.
