Jerry Byrd Obituary

Jerry A. Byrd, age 74, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 in Sweetwater, Texas.  

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 8, 2021 at Fourth and Elm Church of Christ wtih Dr. Michael Harbour officiating.  Burial will follow at White Church Cemetery in Taylor County, Texas.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.  

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 6 - 8 P.M..  

Jerry was born July 27, 1947 in Rotan, Texas  to Gerald C. and Pauline (Casey) Byrd.  He married Leigh Pior on May 13, 1983 in San Angelo, Texas.  He was a graduate of Angelo State University with a bachelor's degree in business.  He was a self-employed rancher and he also worked for Texas Instruments and SISD as a teacher.  He was a Nolan County historian.  

He is survived by his daughter, Cari Ellis and husband Mitch of Christoval, Texas, grandson, Zack Ellis of Hurst, Texas, granddaughter, Jade Ellis of San Angelo, Texas, great grandchildren, Aurora & Eli Glasgow of Christoval, Texas, mother-in-law,  Earlene Pior of Sweetwater, Texas, sister-in-law, Sharon Gabler and husband Larry of Lubbock, Texas, brother-in-law, Neil Pior and wife Tammy of Arlington, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leigh Byrd, parents, Gerald C. and Pauline Byrd, brother, Jeff Byrd, father-in-law, Marshall Pior, grandson, Jerad Ellis and granddaughter, Alyssa Glasgow.  

Pallbearers will be Terry Locklear, Kregg Mc Kinney, Victor Rubio, Jr., Bruce Coldiron, Mike Ault, and Ken Nevins.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nolan Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Nolan, Texas 79537.
