Margie Marie (Hardy) Cornoyer Smith, age 92, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Sterling Hills Rehab. 

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M..  

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Roscoe First Baptist Church with Rev. David Draper officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Margie was born on March 1, 1930 to James Loyd Hardy and Willie Blanche (Harper) Hardy in Sweetwater, Texas.  She attended Sweetwater schools and graduated in 1947 from Newman High School. She was in the marching band, high school orchestra and served as president of the Music Appreciation Club.  She attended Sul Ross Teachers College, Alpine, Texas in 1947 and 1948.  Returning to Sweetwater, she worked for Lone Star Gas Company, from 1948 to 1960.  In 1964, she became co-owner of Cornoyer's Builder and Supplies Store until 1976.   In Jan. 1977 she worked for Riggs and Wootan, CPA's, retiring in 1992.  During this time, she received her Associate Degree from Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas in May 1977 in Mid-Management.

Margie married Vincent L. Cornoyer on May 21, 1950 and they were the parents of Paula M. Cornoyer, J. Louis Cornoyer and Barbara L. Cornoyer.  Vince passed away in 1987.  On March 7, 1992, she married a long-time friend, Jerry B. Smith. 

Margie was a member of First Baptist Church as a child until she was instrumental in helping to organize and was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in 1957 where she was a Charter member 35 years.  Margie and Jerry then attended First Baptist Sweetwater and later joined Roscoe Baptist Church.  

Margie loved club work, she was a former member of ABWA and the Woman’s Forum.  For many years, she served as President of Sweetwater Book Review Club and Athenaeum Study Club where she served in  several office positions.  She loved attending Bible Study Classes and church.  She was a prayer warrior for anyone who needed prayers whether she knew them or not.   

Margie loved her children with a passion and attended plays, band concerts, football, baseball, and girls softball games wherever they were.  She doted on her grandsons and attended as many of their activities as she could.   

She learned to cook at an early age and loved being in her kitchen and cooking for family and friends.  Margie and Jerry traveled extensively and have many great memories.  
She is survived by her husband, Jerry B. Smith of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter, Paula Chisolm and husband Ron of Plano, Texas, son, Louis Cornoyer of Austin, Texas, and daughter, Barbara Davis and husband Roddy of N. Richland Hills, Texas, step-daughter, Sara J. Stagner of Denison, Texas and special friend Marchal Fulmer along with grandsons, Colin Chisolm, Riley Davis and wife Katie and Caleb Davis and wife Meghan, step grandsons,  Kelsey Liles, Larry Cornoyer, IV, and Cody Cornoyer, great grandchildren, Jacob Chisolm, Everleigh Davis and Baby Jonah Davis due in June. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Loyd and Willie Blanche Hardy and first husband, Vince Cornoyer.  

Pallbearers will be Colin Chisolm, Riley Davis, Caleb Davis, Kelsey Liles, Bill Johnson, and Gary Brown. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
