Mathilda Gibson, age 88, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frankie Santiago officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
Mathilda was born on August 2, 1932 in Knoxville, Tennessee to George and Bertha Elzora (Ballard) West. She married Wilburn Monroe Gibson on October 28, 1952 . She was a homemaker and attended Lighthouse Assembly of God. She had been a resident of Sweetwater for over forty two years coming from Pennington Gap, Virginia.
She is survived by four sons, David Wayne Gibson and wife Peggy of Loganville, Georgia, Mark Timothy Gibson of Sweetwater, Texas, Rick Gibson and wife Renee of Sweetwater, Texas, and Gary Lee Gibson and wife Jennifer of Sweetwater, Texas, three grandchildren, Dusty Ray Gibson, Alycia Faith Gibson and Alexi Renee Gibson, one great grandchild, Luke Ryan Gibson, sisters, Beatrice Arnold and husband Arthur, Faye Baichtal and husband Ron, and Phyllis Brinkman, brothers, Jack West and wife Tanya, Jim West, and Jessie Reed West, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Monroe Gibson, parents, George and Bertha West, brothers, George West, Jr., and Paul Ray West, and sisters, Marie Chverchko, and Jane Lescallett.
Pallbearers will be D.C. Roberts, Tommy Staggs, Tyler Bernstein, Brady Bernstein, Luis Hernandez, and Mel Clapper.
