Teresa Lynn (McElyea) Slaton

Teresa Lynn Slaton, age 57 of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at her residence surrounded by family and friends.  

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, February 6, 2023 at Fourth & Elm Church of Christ with Giles Montgomery officiating, assisted by Bryan Boyd.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.  

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.  

Teresa was born on June 17, 1965 in Sweetwater, Texas to Leon and Barbara Ann (Farmer) McElyea.  She married Ronnie Slaton on July 8, 1989 in Sweetwater, Texas.  She worked as a teacher for SISD for many years before retiring and then went to work at Cornerstone Christian School.  She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church.  

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Slaton of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter, Caitlyn Rivas and husband Daniel of Sweetwater, Texas, son, Brandon Slaton and wife Amber of Monahans, Texas, grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Jaiden & Makayla, father, Leon McElyea of Sweetwater, Texas, three brothers, Brian McElyea and wife Rebecca of London, England, Michael McElyea and wife Michelle of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Jeff McElyea and  Liz Torres of Sweetwater, Texas, mother-in-law, Joyce Slaton of Sweetwater, Texas,  and numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.  

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara McElyea, father-in-law, Travis Slaton, and Grandma Vada Mae Farmer.   

Pallbearers will be  Donnie McElyea, Jr., Danny McElyea, Skip Francisco, Bryan Boyd, Ronny Linebaugh, Eddy Campbell, Wade Green, David Pickrell and Eddie Gainey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Teresa Slaton Scholarship Fund, account #738492, in care of Roscoe State Bank.
